I’ve explained a few times now why Nicolas Jackson left Chelsea so I don’t need to go through it all again. But believe me, he well and truly wanted out and also on Enzo Maresca and the club side, they were more than happy for him to leave as well.
It wasn’t that they didn’t rate him as such, they just didn’t see him as the striker to elevate Chelsea in a Champions League competing side this season and beyond. So the mutual decision was made for him to leave the club. But I’m noticing some subtle, or not so subtle, parting shots being made by the striker who is talking like he is well and truly done and dusted with Chelsea.
Remember, he might be at Bayern Munich now but it is still only a loan move with an obligation, an obligation that has certain conditions that need meeting before they have to sign him on a permanent deal. There is not a 100% guarantee that he will join them next summer and he may well end up back at Chelsea. Although I am pretty sure if that does happen then he will join the Chelsea ‘bomb squad’ and will not play for us again. I think feelings have been made clear on that, and the goodbyes are final.
Emotional but not because he left Chelsea
Nicolas Jackson on leaving Chelsea:
🗣 “Very strong emotions, but not for the reasons you might think. I was simply very happy to sign for one of the biggest clubs in the world, to discover another league and other great players.
“At the same time, I was a bit sad to leave Chelsea, my teammates, and the fans.”
I get that he might not have grown much attachment to Chelsea and many fans were overly harsh on him at times, but it’s a strange thing to say even if he also acknowledges he was sad to leave the club.
Wants to prove some things to Chelsea
And probably to the fans that he didn’t appreciate being criticised by.
Nicolas Jackson on facing Chelsea in the Champions League:
🗣 “This is football, it will be exciting! But once kick-off is blown, I’ll give everything for my Bayern. It’s also a great opportunity to show who I am and how much I’ve grown.”
Wanted something different to Maresca/Chelsea
Nicolas Jackson on leaving:
“Football is full of cycles. Sometimes things don’t go as they should, and that’s part of the game. I respect Coach Maresca; I learned a lot from him; he has his own ideas and style. I just needed something different at this stage of my career. I have no regrets, just gratitude for my time at Chelsea.”
Needed something different to Enzo Maresca. I think it’s pretty clear to see what’s happened here.
Goodbye Nico, I don’t think too many Chelsea fans lost loads of sleep over him departing in all honesty. But I truly wish him well at Bayern, until he’s on the pitch against us very soon, then I wish him nothing but the worst luck.
