Christensen And Tuchel Christensen And Tuchel

Opinion: Andreas Christensen being dropped is probably just politics

It’s easy to forget that politics can also play a big part in football whether we want to admit that or not.

In fact, it probably plays a big part in many operations, way more than what we even think. You often see different situations that make you wonder, like Malang Sarr and Romelu Lukaku sharing the same agent, both joining Chelsea, but one of them clearly was never going to play for the club regularly right now. I’m speculating of course, but this deal was almost like a double deal, a favour to the agent.

If Sarr was 19-years old I’d understand, but the guy is 22-years old, same age as Mason Mount. Now don’t get me wrong he’s a decent little player and a good defender, but is he and will he ever be Chelsea quality? That I doubt. His agent is currently offering him out to clubs on loan in January after they couldn’t find him a club in the summer.

Anyway, I digressed, that was just an example of what I believe might have been a political move, which is of course, my opinion and speculative. But Thomas Tuchel not playing Andreas Christensen right now due to him moving the goalposts in contract negotiations with the club, I too believe that could be political.

Many people are saying that it is Tuchel’s decision, but I find that very hard to believe. Tuchel is a coach, he is not involved in negotiations, he will not know the full details of exactly why the deal is not done yet, read his words he basically even says that. So why would he take it upon himself to make such a massive decision and drop Christensen? He wouldn’t. I believe it is a move being pushed by those above him at the club, and he probably agrees with the move deep down, he has good relations with the hierarchy at the club so he trusts them.

But I don’t buy into the whole ‘Tuchel is punishing Christensen’ thing, because it is way more than just that and it is coming from above, in my opinion.

These types of things happen in football all the time.
