Opinion: Big decisions for Chelsea as 6 high profile loanees return to the club

Not only are Chelsea expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer in terms of player pursuits, they will arguably be even busier in sorting out the next moves of a number of returning loan players and fringe players.

It’s easy to forget that Chelsea have regular USA international Matt Miazga still in the ranks, and he has returned to Chelsea after a loan spell in Belgium with Anderlecht, per Goal.

His loan club could not afford to keep him on or buy him outright, so Chelsea will now be extending his contract at the club and trying to sell him. That is one big task alone.

On top of this, there is Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ross Barkley, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Michy Batshuayi, and Davide Zappacosta all returning back to Chelsea this summer.

Crystal Palace had an option to buy Batshuayi at the end of his loan, but they’ve opted not to use it. So he will need to either be sold or loaned again.

Zappacosta I am pretty sure will finally go on a permanent deal, but Chelsea will need to lower their demands for him.

The same for Bakayoko, who I am STILL hearing rumours of a loan deal away from Chelsea this summer shockingly. They just need to bite the bullet and sell him now.

Barkley might be the only one who they wont lose out on any money for if they can get north of what they paid for him, which was around £15m. I think that is more than possible.

Whilst Loftus-Cheek is linked with joining former boss Maurizio Sarri at Lazio on loan, although he is believed to want to stay at Chelsea and prove himself under Thomas Tuchel if given the opportunity.

A lot of work to do here, and you can bet that Chelsea will already be working on a number of potential deals.
