Chelsea made a number of high profile expensive signings this summer, and it is time to utilise the one who was the most expensive – Kai Havertz.
The 21-year old German international has top class undoubted ability, but he also genuinely has a very good chance of becoming a world class player very soon.

We all know the story by now; Havertz arrived at Chelsea instantly under pressure, showed many positive signs, got Covid-19, and since struggled to find form.
Lampard has had him on the bench in the last handful of games, and Chelsea’s form has suffered, but not as a result of this decision; I actually think this was a good decision to take him out of the limelight for some games and let him fully recover from the virus.
But in his last couple of cameo appearances, Havertz has started to look like a player who can really make a difference to Lampard’s team. But not only make a difference, he can become an indispensable and key player for this Chelsea team, and we must now be looking to build our setup around him.
I do not wish to see Havertz on the edge of our own box defending, I want to see him right up close to our main striker, linking up play, creating, and allowing all of our central attacking play to go through him.
Whether this means switching formations or not, is for another debate. But we must now find a way for Havertz to be starting matches in an advanced position doing what he does best.
Can he play in an 8? Yes of course, but I genuinely believe that you only get the very best of him when he is playing in a more advanced role.
Let’s put our faith in him and let him shine. I believe he will shine very soon, and the covid set-back is merely just that, a small set-back.
I think he’s ready to grab the bull by the horns and lead this team.
