Opinion: Chelsea need players that actually want to be at the club

Chelsea have gone through many successful periods in the clubs history and when you look back at the most successful eras at the club, there is a reoccurring theme.

Chelsea had players at the club who would bleed blue, take a kick to the head to stop a goal, leave everything on the pitch, play for the honour and pride of the badge, and most importantly, want to be at the club and not hesitate in signing new deals regardless.

It would be amazing if you guys subscribed for my project over at Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, where we are putting out so much Chelsea content including DAILY Newsletters, exclusive news, breaking news, Podcasts, interviews, inside information, and bringing in some massive guests!

Without drawing on too much speculation, it looks like Andreas Christensen has now agreed to two new contract offers from Chelsea, but has yet to put pen to paper. Now for me this is becoming hugely frustrating and pinpoints towards the question of, well does this guy even want to be here?

Antonio Rudiger is a slightly different story I get that, his is all about the money. He wants to be here you can see that how he is out there fighting on the pitch for Chelsea in every game. But Christensen has been effected by the situation and has had a spell on the sidelines as a result.

I miss the days of Frank Lampard, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Didier Drogba, Michael Ballack, Petr Cech, Didier Drogba, and many more who adored the club and would do anything to be at the club and stay at the club. These players bought us our most successful eras. Of course Lampard left and played for Manchester City, but that was on Chelsea not Lampard, he wanted to continue playing at the highest level.

We have a give up mentality during matches in recent seasons when heads drop or things aren’t going our way and it needs to change. We need a culture here of players that want to be here fighting for the badge, players like Mason Mount, Reece James, and even Rudiger. They’re all fighters and never give up.

If you don’t want to sign a new deal and stay at the club, then goodbye. If you’re eyeing other clubs and want a new challenge, then goodbye.
