Well, seeing as it is an international break and you are all bored, we decided it was a good time to reflect on some of Chelsea’s England players past and present.
For this article in particular, we have looked at the impact each player made for their country, and ranked them in the top 10, with number 1 obviously being the best.
Could Chelsea look to do a swap deal involving Tammy Abraham and Declan Rice? Read my latest here and find out!
See if you agree…
10. Mason Mount
Surprised to see Mount here? Well, he already has 13 caps for England and most of those are as a starter, so he is actually capped quite highly in terms of our all-time capped players. The likes of Shaun Wright-Phillips and Wayne Bridge have been capped more, but mainly as substitutes, which is why Mount makes the list.
9. Jimmy Greaves
Surprisingly, not many of our more classic players got very high caps at all. Greavesie left his mark on the England scene though with 15 caps.
8. Graeme Le Saux
He was an under rated left back, and always put in good performances for England, but he had good competition along the way perhaps restricting him.
7. Dennis Wise
Similar to Le Saux, he missed out on caps due to those ahead of him, but the midfielder still managed to rack up an impressive 21 caps.
6. Ray Wilkins
24 caps for the late Ray Wilkins, and his quality goes without saying. Fully deserving of every one of those caps.
5. Joe Cole
A player who I felt had the world at his feet and could have probably done a lot more with his talent. He was restricted a little with injuries, but still got 46 caps for England.
4. Gary Cahill
Another unsung hero for England and Chelsea really. Cahill suffered being in the wrong era, the England squads around his time often under performed and under achieved.
3. John Terry
If only he didn’t fall out with the FA, he could have lead England to their first major trophy since 1966! What could have been!
2. Ashley Cole
55 caps for Cole, and you can bet your bottom dollar they were mainly as a starter. Cole’s quality was undisputed.
1. Frank Lampard
Our only player to get over 100 caps for England so far, but we needn’t gush over how unreal he was as a player, we all know that. Mount the next one to get 1o0 caps? If I was a betting man I’d be punting for sure!
