The midfield area is one area that Chelsea look to be prioritising improving in the summer.
Particularly players who can play in a deeper role as well as a more advanced position. The main names linked over recent months is of course Declan Rice and Aurelien Tchouameni.
But one name I am pleased to hear still being linked with the club is England international Jude Bellingham, who I believe would be a real top option for us.
Transfer inside Dean Jones was on my Podcast this morning, The Si & Dan Talk Chelsea Podcast, and he told me that Jude Bellingham ‘is someone Chelsea have on their radar for the summer’ and that was music to my ears.
Check out the full Episode at Si & Dan Talk Chelsea, he covers a lot more transfer news including the latest on Digne, Tchouameni, and Kounde.
Bellingham was always seen as more of an attacking midfielder when he was younger, but he has actually now developed into a complete all rounder and can play the pivot 6 role very well. He’s been fantastic for Dortmund, and in the few games he’s had for his country, he’s been fantastic there as well.
This would represent a real investment for Chelsea with Bellingham only being 18-years old still but having already developed into a mature player who is ready to compete at the top level, we wouldn’t have to wait for him to develop more. But the scary thing is he IS actually still improving with every game and will get even better.
I’m not sure sure it would be too realistic to get him in the coming summer but if there is a chance, Chelsea should be all over that.
I’m not saying Bellingham over Rice or Tchouameni necessarily, but he is an option that if we did only get him over the other two let’s just say I wouldn’t be too upset. Chelsea could still get two new midfielders in the summer depending on circumstances, so we will have to see what happens, but Bellingham is a player high up on my list of targets that I want Chelsea to bring in, and he’s a VERY realistic option.
