There’s been a debate bubbling up today off the back of another report out. We all know the situation by now. As well as Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, we could lose both Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta from our backline this summer.
The Spanish pair are wanted by Barcelona and have both been heavily linked with leaving in the next couple of months.
It was reported today that Thomas Tuchel wants to try and persuade Azpilicueta to stay at the club this summer, and it caused some debate amongst Blues fans. Some feel it will be wise to keep him for his experience as squad depth, others feel that the time is now right to say goodbye and part ways.
I decided to do a poll to gauge fan opinion in general and asked the simple question, do you want Azpilicueta to leave Chelsea this summer?
The results were clear, as you can see below. The poll still has some time to run [at the time of writing] but it’s already clear and we don’t even need to see it run. After almost 5,000 votes, a massive 85% of voters believe now is the time for him to depart the club, whereas only 15% want him to stay.
Personally, I think the time is right for him to leave the club and we shouldn’t stand in his way if he wishes to go and join Barcelona this summer.
He’s a legend here and I wouldn’t want to see that tarnished with his clear decline. I’ll always hold him in high regard and as will Chelsea as a club. But It’s time to say thanks, goodbye, and good luck captain!
