Silva shines, Werner struggles – Chelsea player ratings vs West Ham

Chelsea got a hugely important three points in the Premier League last night thrashing West Ham 3-0.

As much as the result is all that matters, it doesn’t tell the full story of a game that was actually very edgy for Chelsea, and they will feel relieved to come away with such a convincing score line.

But going into Christmas back in the top 5 after thrashing a London rival and getting a clean sheet, can only be celebrated by the club and the fans.

Here is how we rated them players.

Edourd Mendy – 6

He didn’t have one shot to save, but his distribution was fine and he came for a couple of crosses well.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 6

Some solid moments defensively but he was sluggish at times and his lack of pace exposed.

Kurt Zouma – 6

A couple of dodgy passes from Zouma shaded an overall solid performance from him.

Thiago Silva – 9

Our Man of the Match was outstanding and if it wasn’t for him, Chelsea would not have won this game. He was colossal at the back and scored a brilliant header to get Chelsea’s first goal.

Emerson Palmieri – 6

Often too negative with his play and doesn’t have the confidence to advance forward with the ball, but it was far from a bad performance from him.

Jorginho – 5

Gave the ball away a little too often, but also showed good vision for a few long passes. Was out muscled on a couple of occasions as well and Chelsea just looked better when he came off for Kovacic.

N’Golo Kante – 7

He actually looked more accomplished when he switched back to the deeper role he has been playing most of the season, and it was business as usual for Kante.

Mason Mount – 7

He rarely gives the ball away and was a needed outlet for Chelsea to keep possession on many occasions last night when they were under pressure. His energy and defensive hassling is also under rated.

Timo Werner – 5

Missed chances and looked nervous in front of goal once again. Lampard again reiterated the need to let him settle and I am inclined to agree, but it was another poor game from the German unfortunately.

Christian Pulisic – 8

He was Chelsea’s main attacking threat and his running with the ball caused problems for West Ham, especially for Tammy Abraham’s second goal.

Tammy Abraham – 8

Started slow and failed to hold the ball up occasions, but his two late goals were so important and showed just how good he can be as a goal poacher.

Mateo Kovacic – 8

Changed the game really for Chelsea when he came on adding some much needed energy and urgency, as well as using possession very well.
