This former Chelsea man could have the last laugh against Blues

Gary Cahill spent the latter part of his Chelsea career being abused and criticised by some supporters.

Of course, he was a player in decline since reaching his 30s, and of course, he was no longer good enough for a starting role at Chelsea.

But some of the disrespect and abuse thrown at the Chelsea captain, was just poor.

This is a player who literally won every trophy available during his Chelsea career, and he would always put his body on the line for that blue shirt.

He was one of the heroes of Munich, giving every single inch of his inner self to bring that Champions League trophy home, against all the odds.

But still, no longer good enough for Chelsea. And if I’m honest, he’s always been much better in a defensive setup, rather than being asked to be a ball playing defender. As an old-fashioned style defender though, there aren’t many better.

Which is why I believe he will have the last laugh against those Chelsea supporters who decided its a good idea to abuse our own players.

Signed for Crystal Palace officially, Cahill will be facing up against Chelsea this season, and you know how much he loves a good powerful headed goal from a corner.

I can see it now, Selhurst Park next season, awful weather, stalemate at 90 minutes, corner for Palace, up steps Gary Cahill arriving at the back post to score the goal that beats his former team.

Would he celebrate? Absolutely not..

Gary Cahill, thanks for the memories, please don’t score against us!
