Why Chelsea need to get John Terry on Liam Rosenior’s staff – opinion

Chelsea fans are possibly the most disconnected to this club than they have been for a long time.

There is a real feel of discontent towards the ownership from across the last 3 years.

The Chelsea board really need to do something to get some fans back on side a bit, and hiring John Terry as part of Liam Rosenior’s coaching team in the senior set up will go a long way to helping to do this.

As Terry explained yesterday, he has all his coaching badges as well as three years coaching experience in the Premier League. He’s qualified enough to be an assistant manager now at Chelsea, and he’s already employed by the club.

The man is clearly desperate to get a role within the first team, and whilst I understand some warranted concerns that have been raised on this, I believe it’s a no brainer.

Nobody knows this club better than Terry does. Nobody loves this club more than Terry does. Players will listen to Terry. I’m not saying hand him the tactical keys. But having him in a dressing room as a motivator will only help Liam Rosenior and the players.

We speak about games like Leeds United and others lately, where the players just seem to fold over and don’t fight and battle. Do you think if Terry was in the dressing room that this would happen? I don’t think so. Not one player would be allowed to ignore the importance and the history behind such a fixture.

Terry could focus his coaching in training on the defensive side and work with the defenders. Which aspiring young defender would not want to work alongside Terry and listen to what he has to say? He’s easily one of the best centre backs to ever play the game, and he knows what he’s talking about.

Terry could help Liam’s transition into the club perfectly. I don’t think for one minute that Liam needs anyone to hold his hand because he has a strong mentality of his own. But having the help of John Terry is something that I don’t think anyone involved with the club should be turning away, or would want to be turning away.

Chelsea, do the right thing and finally bring Terry into a senior coaching role.
