Chelsea defeated Manchester City 2-0 to reaffirm their credentials as a team to beat in the Premier League this season.
As the teams were announced and neither side included a recognised striker in their starting eleven, we were given an idea of the sort of contest that was set to unfold in front of our eyes.
An intriguing battle of the division’s master tacticians. The pair will go on to achieve plenty with their respective clubs, but only one could be triumphant on the day, and Maurizio Sarri wasn’t prepared to leave the stadium without all three points.
Despite City dominating the first-half, it was Chelsea who went in ahead at the break. On the verge of half-time, N’Golo Kante fired home into the roof of Ederson’s net to give us what was probably the most undeserved lead of the season so far.
We grew into the game in the second half. The goal looked to spur us on somewhat. It took 38 minutes for us to add a second, but it was worth waiting for.
As referee Michael Oliver awarded us our first corner of the game in the 78th minute of the contest, the big men made their way forward. David Luiz got in ahead of his marker and looped his header into the back of the City net to wrap up the points.
That took us safely over the line and ensured that City would not be going the season unbeaten, as many have been suggesting they could. As for Chelsea, we proved that we have made forward steps under Sarri, and now we can be positive about the future.
GET IN THERE, CHELS!
