Chelsea are interested in signing Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater, according to Sky Sports.
As per Sky Sports, Drinkwater is on the Premier League champions’ shortlist of potential replacements for Nemanja Matic, who joined Manchester United on Monday afternoon.
Drinkwater’s midfield partnership with N’Golo Kante, who is now, of course, a Chelsea player, was influential in Leicester’s title triumph in the 2015/16 campaign.
He would also count as home-grown under Premier League and Champions League regulations, which is something that Antonio Conte dearly needs in his squad ahead of the new season.
However, Sky Sports claim that we received as much as £40M in exchange for Matic, surely we can do better with that money than Danny Drinkwater?
We are the champions of England, who are set to announce our return to the European stage after a year’s absence, we should be in the market for higher calibre players – regardless of the role they’re going to play in our squad.
