Chelsea keen to hijack Zenit’s deal to sign AS Roma centre-back

There appears to be some substance in rumours linking Chelsea with a move for AS Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas.

Matt Law, who is generally pretty spot-on when it comes to Blues news, reports for the Telegraph that Chelsea are keen to hijack Zenit St Petersburg’s pursuit of Manolas.

Law believes that the Greece international’s potential move to Russia has stalled, with both parties thought to be some distance apart over his wages.

It is reported that the Premier League champions are yet to contact Roma directly, but they could make their move if Manolas opts to reject a move to Zenit.

As per the Telegraph, Nathan Ake is on the verge of joining Chelsea’s Premier League counterparts Bournemouth in a £20M deal. Law reports that we could reinvest all of that into making a £26M move to sign Manolas.

Antonio Conte appears to be keen to draft in a new centre-back, only time will tell if Manolas is that man.
