Chelsea appear to have suffered a setback in their reported pursuit of AS Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas.
The Greek international is one of the defenders in Serie A. His combative defensive style accompanied with his classy distribution from the back has seen him establish himself among the best in Italy.
Chelsea target and AS Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas is considered one of the best defenders in Serie A.According to The Sun, this has landed him on the transfer radar of Premier League champions Chelsea. The tabloid claim that Manolas is a long-term target of the Premier League champions – but we have now been handed a blow in our efforts to secure his signature.
As mentioned in The Sun’s report, Sky Italia journalist Fabrizio Romano, who knows his stuff when he comes to Italian football, claims that Manolas is set to extend his stay in Rome. See the below tweet.

Did we need him anyway?
Whether or not our interest in signing Manolas was genuine, perhaps we’ll never know. It would seem strange that we would target him having already poached Antonio Rudiger from AS Roma during the summer.
For now, it does not look as though there is any dire need of defensive reinforcements.
Chelsea signed German international Antonio Rudiger from AS Roma during the summer transfer window.
