David Alaba’s recently made headlines after he demanded a change of position to play as a midfielder with his next club. A demand that might have already put off several teams in contention to sign him, including Chelsea.
But his never-ending transfer saga has now taken another diversion after it was reported by German sports outlet Sport BILD’s senior journalist Christian Falk that the salary offer from the favourites to land him, Real Madrid, is apparently ‘low & not acceptable’.
His contract renewal negotiations with Bayern Munich have not materialized since the start of the season and now his talks with Madrid looks likely to breakdown in purely monetary terms.
Alaba is now on the cards of several Premier League clubs. Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have been rumoured as possible destinations. And Chelsea are in line to land the versatile defender if Roman Abramovich gives an affirmative signal.
Paris Saint-Germain are another club that have a realistic chance in affording the Austrian.
His salary demands would make him one of Chelsea’s top earners, ahead of Ben Chilwell, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic.
