Chelsea midfielder set to be handed first ever competitive start for England

Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek could be set to be handed his first competitive start for England against Panama on Sunday.

Loftus-Cheek’s introduction against Tunisia changed the game. He and Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford drove England forward with their optimism and bravery in possession.

The Chelsea academy product won the corner which resulted in Harry Kane scoring the winning goal in the 91st minute. Scarcely have we seen such an impressive Three Lions cameo in recent international tournaments.

According to the Guardian, Loftus-Cheek may have done enough to earn himself his first start at a major tournament for England. Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli is thought to be a major doubt for the Panama game, with RLC waiting in reserve to replace him.

A start at the World Cup would be the perfect way for Loftus-Cheek to cap-off a commendable breakout season. Maurizio Sarri ought to tune-in on Sunday to see how good a midfielder he will have at his disposal.
