Cesc Fabregas has revealed that he feared for his Chelsea future during the 2016/17 campaign.
It was clear to see from the very beginning that Fabregas was not your archetypal Antonio Conte player. The Spaniard fast found himself omitted from the starting side and relegated to the substitutes bench.
Fabregas made just three Premier League starts during the 2016/17, title-winning campaign – but bizarrely, still played a starring role in the triumph. His impact off the bench time and time again continually won Chelsea points.
However, Conte rarely decided to restore Fabregas to the starting side, instead he continued to use him as a substitute, where Fabregas continued to be effective.
Fabregas, who was a regular starter at Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea, prior to Conte’s arrival, has admitted that he will concerned by his lack of action.
The La Masia academy product is quoted by the Daily Mail saying:
“Well, I would be lying if I say that I wasn’t worried. Maybe worried is not the right word. I wasn’t playing, I wasn’t really part of (Conte’s) initial plans and at that point you can do two things.”
Fabregas went on to prove just how good of a professional he is, every young player wanting to make it in the big-time could learn something from him. The Daily Mail quote Fabregas, who says:
“You can just give up and accept you are not going to be part of the team or the club in the future. The other is what I did, put your head down and be humble, show him that he’s wrong, that he can trust you, that you can play in this time. Every time I had an opportunity I gave my all.”
Fabregas has just 18 months remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge. Let’s hope we can get him tied down to an extension as soon as possible.
