Baba Rahman is set to re-join Chelsea’s loan army as he gets closer to a move back to Schalke, German outlet Reviersport reports via Goal.
The left-back who joined Chelsea in 2015 spent last season with Schalke after failing to get into Antonio Conte’s plans.
The Bundesliga side’s desire to link up with Baba have been evident in this transfer window. It is expected that he will join the club till the end of the season.
When speaking to Reviersport, sporting director Christian Heidel revealed that the Ghanian was set for a return to Schalke.
Heidel is quoted by Goal saying:
“I expect a decision to be taken in a relatively short term. Many things are already exchanged between Chelsea and us.”
Baba unfortunate not to get Chelsea chance
Even though he got opportunities during the dreadful season of 2015/16, Baba’s time at Chelsea has been troubling.
However, after just one season of regular game time with us, Baba deserved a chance to redeem himself.
The 23-year-old’s defensive frailties shouldn’t have blown away his chances of playing us in the future. This is also something Conte could have improved in the defender.
It’s seems as though Antonio Conte wants to provide Marcos Alonso with regular competition. Something the manager believed Baba couldn’t provide.
Chelsea have been reportedly in the market for a left-sided defender with links to Juventus’ Alex Sandro and Porto’s Alex Telles.
