Now here’s something that will divide opinion.
Antonio Conte has confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Gary Cahill will play against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, as Chelsea reported on their official Twitter account.
The Premier League champions go head-to-head with former boss Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge in what could prove to be an early six-pointer in both the title race and the race for Champions League qualification.
Conte will undoubtedly be looking to field his strongest starting eleven against the Red Devils, and has now confirmed that a man who divides opinion more than most will be included – Gary Cahill.
Cahill was left out of Chelsea’s previous Premier League fixture, but featured against AS Roma midweek. We lost 3-0, with our defence looking as flimsy as ever, and Cahill was hauled off in the 56th minute.
On the surface of it, it does appear to be a nonsensical decision to bring Cahill back into the side, but if there’s one thing we’ve learned over the past year, it’s to trust Conte’s decision making.
