All the talk was about Ruben Loftus-Cheek after a stand out performance on his England debut on Friday night.
Despite the goalless draw, Loftus-Cheek bossed the midfield and was the definition of composed against World Champions Germany.
In front of a packed Wembley Stadium, the 21-year-old caught the eye of Gareth Southgate. When speaking after the match, the England manager believes that the sky is the limit for Loftus-Cheek, as the BBC reports.
BBC quotes Loftus-Cheek saying:
“I think tonight it took him 10 minutes to have a look around him and think ‘all right, OK, I can do this’. He is capable of anything.”
It’s no doubt that Loftus-Cheek was England’s best player in a side that lacked experience at international level.
Can Loftus-Cheek get back into the Chelsea fold next season?
Blues fans will be hoping manager Antonio Conte was watching the game last night.
The Italian took the decision to loan out Loftus-Cheek to Crystal Palace after struggling to get consistent minutes under him last season.
The signings of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater will have put pressure on the midfielder to get back in Conte’s team.
However, if he produces more performances like that on the big stage, it will be hard for us not to give Loftus-Cheek a chance.
Despite the long-term goal of being a first team regular for Chelsea, boarding the plane for Russia in next summer’s World Cup is now a realistic goal.
