Antonio Conte’s long-term future at Chelsea still appears to be in doubt.
As we reported on Monday evening, the Italian signed a new two-year deal with the Blues, likely as a reward for a stellar debut season at Stamford Bridge.
Fans took to social media in their masses to celebrate, but the new contract does not signal his commitment to Chelsea, nor the club’s commitment to him – quite the opposite.
Conte already had two-years left to run on his contract, all he has likely done by signing a new one this summer is secured a bigger wage packet.
If Conte was genuinely willing to commit his long-term future to Chelsea, and if Chelsea were intending to invest in his stewardship, we would likely have seen an extension to his deal.
This contract, on the surface of it, appears to be great news for Chelsea, but it could signify that both parties feel as though this will in fact be a short-term relationship.
