Michy Batshuayi has taken to Twitter to celebrate scoring his first ever Champions League goal.
The Belgian was handed an opportunity to impress against Qarabag, having been kept out of Antonio Conte’s starting eleven by the scintillating form of Alvaro Morata.
Although he is likely to be dropped once again on Sunday as Chelsea go head-to-head with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge, he did his reputation no harm on Tuesday night.
Batshuayi was frustrated for 75 minutes, but finally etched his name onto the scoresheet with an emphatic finish from the edge of the Qarabag penalty area.
He thought he had a second after Davide Zappacosta’s low-cross was bundled home. However, replays showed that the final touch came from a Qarabag player and it was subsequently recorded as an own-goal.
One thing does stand, however – Batshuayi is a Champions League goalscorer for the very first time. He took to Twitter to celebrate the goal, as well as thanking teammate Tiemoue Bakayoko for the assist.
