Walking up to the penalty spot on Sunday afternoon, few people will have been convinced that Thibaut Courtois was the right player to be taking Chelsea’s second spot-kick in the club’s penalty shoot-out against Arsenal. And rightly so…

After blasting his shot way over the bar, the Belgium international has promised to learn from his mistakes and took to Instagram to express his disappointment at Chelsea’s shoot-out defeat.

Despite the goalkeeper’s penalty miss, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte defended his no.1 when talking to the official Chelsea website, explaining that the 25-year-old was “one of the best players to kick a penalty.”
