Antonio Conte has provided us with an update on our activity in the transfer market, and it doesn’t look as though we will be busy between now and the end of the month.
There is an evident, dire need for reinforcements this month. The Premier League title is already lost and we have a tie with the best team in the world in Barcelona to look forward to. We HAVE to strengthen if we want to have any chance of salvaging this campaign and making it a memorable one.
It was reported by the Guardian on Wednesday that we had agreed a fee with AS Roma to sign both Edin Dzeko and Emerson Palmieri. They would provide much needed cover in attack and at left-wing-back and increase the competition for places in the side.
However, perhaps that report is premature, as Conte has insisted that he does not need to bring any more players in this month. Speaking after our defeat to Arsenal, Conte is quoted by the Daily Mail saying:
“I don’t need anything. I’m a coach and I continue to stick with these players.”
Let’s hope he’s merely keeping his cards close to his chest and there is a deal or two in the pipeline…
