After failing to secure the services of Romelu Lukaku last week, Chelsea have today missed out on yet another of their top transfer targets.

Earlier this afternoon, Bayern Munich announced on their official website a deal to sign James Rodríguez from Real Madrid on a two-year loan deal.

The Colombian forward had been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge after growing frustrated with the lack of first team opportunities offered to him at the Bernabéu. However, the exciting attacker has opted for a move to Germany where he will get the chance to work alongside Carlo Ancelotti once again.

Last week, Chelsea were beaten by Manchester United in the race to sign Romelu Lukaku. The failure to secure the signature of James Rodríguez is the second time the Blues have missed out on a transfer target in as many weeks.

As a result, Antonio Conte will have to resort back to his summer shopping list in search of alternative options.
