AS Roma director Monchi has compared Chelsea’s pursuit of striker Edin Dzeko to him trying to bring FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi to Rome, report The Sun.
Dzeko has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League champions over the past week. The Guardian even went as far as reporting that we had a bid of £44M (plus £13.2M add-ons) accepted by AS Roma for the Bosnian and teammate Emerson Palmieri.
However, despite the Guardian’s report heavily suggesting that the deal was close to completion, AS Roma chief Monchi has come out publicly to rubbish those claims.
Monchi is quoted by The Sun insisting that the proposals that have been made by Chelsea so far have not matched AS Roma’s valuation of Dzeko:
“We are ready to listen and then we decide. Now Dzeko is here and the rest doesn’t matter, which means the offer that arrived is not interesting.”
Monchi went on to compare our pursuit of Dzeko to him attempting to poach Lionel Messi from FC Barcelona, as The Sun report:
“A director of sport must look at the economic and sporting aspect, that is the point of the role. I am a director, I must consider both, otherwise tomorrow I would go to sign Leo Messi.”
There are just days remaining of the January transfer window. We cannot afford to leave Antonio Conte short this month. Let’s stump up the cash and get Dzeko in a Chelsea shirt as soon as possible.
