Southampton have named their price for centre-back Virgil Van Dijk, according to Yahoo Sports.

Looking at our 3-2 defeat to Burnley at Saturday, there were clear defensive frailties on display. The back five that performed so well during our title-winning campaign last time around, bar the suspended Victor Moses, capitulated.

Antonio Conte looks to have sprung into action in the transfer market, as Yahoo Sports report that Chelsea are interested in signing Southampton’s Van Dijk. However, he will not come cheap.

Yahoo Sports believe that the Saints are demanding an eye-watering £70M in exchange for the Dutchman, a fee which they claim would be a new world-record for a defender.

Chelsea also face competition from Manchester City in the to sign Van Dijk, according to Yahoo Sports, which further complicates our pursuit of the 26-year-old.

He is one of the best defenders in the country so we should look to do whatever it takes to get this one over the line. Only time will tell if it materialises.

I don’t understand why we always don’t trust our present squard. We threw Zouma and other several.

Would really be a fantastic addition to Chelsea’s defense but the price tag is just outrageous.
