Former-Chelsea skipper Dennis Wise is adamant that Diego Costa is the reason for the club’s inconsistent league form, The Metro reports.
Manager Antonio Conte didn’t play with a natural striker against Everton with Alvaro Morata suspended. Michy Batshuayi was once again on the bench as Eden Hazard led the Blues line.
Despite Chelsea’s dominance in the game, there was next to nothing in end product from the visitors.
As per The Metro, Wise didn’t agree with the decision to sell combative Costa is why Chelsea continue to struggle in the title race.
Wise is quoted by the Metro saying:
“Eden Hazard, Pedro and Willian want to come out wide and deep. Costa battles and makes defenders make mistakes.”
Morata has done well in Costa’s place
The problem for Chelsea’s title race isn’t down to the loss of Costa. In fact, Morata has done a sterling job occupying the centre-forward role.
Bigger worries like the struggles to sign players Conte identified like Alex Sandro as well as Champions League football has had an effect.
Perhaps Costa would have made the difference against Everton but so to would have Morata. Ultimately, Chelsea and everyone associated with the club must move on.
