Eden Hazard does not need to leave Chelsea to win Ballon D’Or, claims 2004 winner

Andriy Shevchenko believes that Eden Hazard CAN win the Ballon D’Or at Chelsea.

Hazard has previously suggested that he may need to move to La Liga in order to win the award. His comments intensified speculation linking him with Real Madrid, but Shevchenko feels as though the move would be unnecessary.

Shevchenko, who knows all about what it requires to win the Ballon D’Or, having won it himself in 2004, believes that Hazard is on the right track, and may not need to leave Stamford Bridge to scoop the coveted individual honour.

The Ukrainian legend is quoted by Goal saying:

“Why do attackers always get individual awards? Because they are responsible for finishing attacks. People like to see goals scored. Hazard is a phenomenal, fantastic player, but he wasn’t getting those 20-25 goals per season.”

“This season he already has eight, so he’s on the road to that number. He has every chance of winning the Ballon d’Or.”

Perhaps the only thing holding Hazard back is the fact that Chelsea are not competing in the Champions League. If he signed for Real Madrid, he’d have a great chance of winning the competition.

We’ll be back in it next term, though, and if we invest heavily in Maurizio Sarri’s side in the summer of 2019, and Hazard remains, we could fast become one of the favourites to win it.
