Chelsea set to hand out a second contract extension worth £100K-a-week after Alonso signs

Marcos Alonso has put pen-to-paper on a contract extension with Chelsea, now one of his teammates appears set to follow suit.

That’s according to Goal, who claim that Chelsea are prepared to bump up Antonio Rudiger’s wages to as much as £100K-a-week as a reward for his good performances.

Rudiger has fast become one of our most important players. He does not have the most reliable centre-back partner in David Luiz, but his performances do not depict a lack of trust in the Brazilian, rather a huge amount of trust in his own ability.

The German has been far and away our best defender this season, and if Goal are correct in claiming that he has earned himself an extension to his contract, few could argue that he isn’t deserving of the pay-rise.

Perhaps Chelsea are focusing on extending the contracts of our most important players in hope of convincing Eden Hazard to follow their example. In the coming weeks and months, we should have more clarity on the Belgian’s situation.
