Hakim Ziyech’s start to his Chelsea career has not gone how he would have planned, struggling with injury since his first appearance in a pre-season friendly. However, when he is fit he shows us just how talented of a footballer he is.
The assist he gave to Hudson-Odoi in the 4-0 win over Morecambe showed that he is the key to unlocking Chelsea’s attacking potentials.
Ziyech was initially stationed in-field, but as the play develops he makes himself available for Rudiger to pass to. After he receives the ball he takes a look forward and sees Hudson-Odoi darting inwards from the left-wing. Ziyech then lobs the ball over the defence and into the path of Hudson-Odoi who places the ball into the net. (You can see the video below)

The pass itself is quite unique. You can see that once Ziyech receives the ball, everybody on the pitch knows what he wants to do. However, the only thing Morecambe could do at that point is attempt to catch Hudson-Odoi offside.
The movement from Hudson-Odoi should also be applauded. Without his forward-thinking, we would not be able to enjoy such an amazing pass from Ziyech.
Looking ahead to our fixture against Fulham this Saturday, we will hope to see more of Ziyech’s stunning passing range.
