A whole year without fans – One year to the day, Chelsea beat Everton 4-0

It’s been a long year for everyone around the globe as we have lived with a global pandemic that has stopped and crippled the world.

For Chelsea, it has now been a whole year to the day at the time of writing, since there was a full house of fans watching a game inside Stamford Bridge.

Since then, all bar a couple of occasions in between with limited fans allowed in, the players have had to play in empty stadiums.

8th of March 2020, Chelsea played and beat Everton 4-0 and put on a hell of a show for the fans, who at the time did not know this would be the last time they were allowed back in Stamford Bridge for a year at least.

Goals from Mason Mount, Willian, Pedro, and Olivier Giroud saw Chelsea absolutely cruise this game, and what we would all do for that result again later on!

Tonight, 8th of March 2021, Chelsea are playing Everton again at Stamford Bridge and there will not be a fan in sight.

But there is hope, the hope that the pandemic will be contained enough with the vaccine rollout that we can soon start to see more normality again, including the return of fans, which they are hopeful we could see at the very end of this season to a small extent.

And just like all of us, Thomas Tuchel cannot wait to play in front of fans again.

“The sport is not the same,” Tuchel explained on the Chelsea website.

“We play it for the fans, we play it at the highest level for entertainment for our fans and for all the supporters around the world.

“It [a crowd] gives you a certain edge, it gives you a certain energy that you cannot have in an empty stadium. We don’t like it but we are grateful that we can still play. At the same time we cannot compare and I cannot wait until our fans are back.”

Tuchel believes that his style of football and this current squad can really get the crowd going, and he is pining for that moment.

“I think we can really get the crowd going and I cannot wait until everybody is there,” Tuchel continued.

“This team has everything needed to entertain our supporters and hopefully it is as soon as possible.”

Well, I think this is one thing that collectively every single Chelsea fan can fully agree with, and that happens basically never!
