Ex-Chelsea center-back Frank Leboeuf appeared for the Blues for five years between 1996 and 2001, appearing 191 times and scoring 22 goals in the process.
He won two FA Cups along with the famous UEFA Cup & Super Cup in the 1998 season – the same season he won the FIFA World Cup with France.
When speaking to Sky Sports Football, Leboeuf was asked to pick his best XI from Chelsea’s 2000 FA Cup winning team & the historic UEFA Champions League 2012 winning team.
The strong-headed centre-back picked several of his old mates including Marcel Desailly and Gianfranco Zola, but one name he couldn’t help but praise was former shot-stopper Petr Cech who he called ‘absolutely magical’.
In the goalkeeping position Ed de Goey, his former teammate was pitched against Cech, on which Leboeuf commented:
“Well, two giants first. Two big personalities. My former team-mate Ed de Goey did an absolutely fantastic job while at Chelsea. But I will go for Petr Cech.I followed Petr since he was at Stade Rennes before he came to Chelsea and then finishing his career at Arsenal. That guy was absolutely magical.
We had so many fantastic goalkeepers during my time – but Petr was one of the world’s best goalkeepers for sure.”
Cech made just short of 500 appearances for the club between 2004 & 2015, before moving to Arsenal to see out his playing days.
He is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers of his generation and arguably the best in Chelsea’s history.
