After having played 14 game sin the first eight weeks as Chelsea manager and going unbeaten through all of them, Thomas Tuchel is now looking forward to some ‘time to breathe’ with the first international break of 2021.
Chelsea faced the likes of Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Liverpool, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur and went without conceding a single goal against them.
Now, as 23 first team Chelsea players go on international duty, Tuchel was asked what feels he has achieved during his first few weeks in charge at Stamford Bridge. Speaking in an exclusive interview to Chelsea TV, he said:
“I’m not the kind of person to look back, we have more time to breathe. We always have to think about the next training session, next match, and next solutions. The international break gives you time to breathe a little bit. It is good to have some free days. Maybe we can use it as a little bit of a pause before the decisive part of the season.”
He said the team is going through a great run of momentum, but international duties come as an inevitable part of the season.
“It’s good to stay in the rhythm, it was very intense in these eight weeks. but I’m also happy for the players. It is good for them. We still are alive in three competitions. When we regroup it is April and we can refocus on the next eight weeks where we want to achieve the best results possible.”
Chelsea resume their season against West Bromwich Albion on April 3 in the Premier League before moving on the crucial UEFA Champions League quarter-finals clash against FC Porto.
The Porto clash will undoubtedly be Chelsea’s more important clash as Tuchel’s men look ready to take on some of the European elite on the continental stage.
