4 Chelsea players to watch closely this international break

Well, we are here again with another international break, and I am going to do my best to enjoy the football that is being played, because at least there is some being played despite our beloved Blues not featuring.

There are many Chelsea players out with their national teams this break, but I want to pull the focus onto four of them for this particular article for different reasons.

Some of them are developing, or at various different turning points in their careers, and these few matches in the spotlight for their countries could decide a few things, or could help them find or hit some more form.

Let’s have a look.

Ethan Ampadu

I’ll be keeping a close eye on his matches for Wales, and I actually watched them get beaten by a good Belgium side last night.

I want to keep an eye on him because the jury is still out on his future. Wales play him as a centre midfielder, but he has been operating as part of a back three for Sheffield United, where he has looked decent on occasions.

But what is his best position? And does he need to nail down one regular spot? I’ll be keen to see how he plays in centre midfield again so I can see if I can make any more sense of a player who I was always adamant would make it at Chelsea.

Timo Werner

We all know the story here, he’s hardly lit up the Premier League so far. So perhaps some good form and a couple goals will give him the boost he needs to really kick-start his Chelsea career.

With the pressure and differences of domestic English football out of the equation, I am going to be keeping a close eye on our new German striker, starting with tonight against Iceland.

Mason Mount

You may ask why I haven’t said Reece James. Well, I’m not so sure if he will be starting much, but also I think this is a crucial time for Mount’s career. He’s been consistently good for his club for two years now, I want to see him stand up a bit further on the international level and take that same form and confidence there, become a real important player for England as he has for Chelsea.

I mean, it will be his 14th cap for England tonight, and Gareth Southgate loves him, there is no doubt in that. But I’d like to see him rise even more now at national level and give himself an even higher peddle stall.

Christian Pulisic

It’s probably fairly obvious why I want to keep a close eye on Pulisic right? With his form and not really being a regular for Thomas Tuchel yet, he has a great chance to show once again exactly what he can do in a pressure-free environment.

He also seems to have gotten over some recent injury niggles, so it will be good to see him come through this unscathed as well.
