Opinion: 8,000 fans louder than 40,000 – My experience back at Stamford Bridge

Finally, fans were allowed back inside Stamford Bridge last night as Chelsea beat Leicester 2-1 in the Premier League.

No away fans allowed, and only a limited 8,000 capacity in a 40,800 seater stadium, but it was something. In fact, it was MORE than something – Having 8,000 fans back in the stadium was better than having a full stadium, and it was certainly louder from my experiences.

Eden Hazard could really be set for a return to Chelsea this summer, find out more here.

We sang our hearts out the entire game, and I did not witness one person not getting involved in the famous CHELSEA! CHELSEA CHELSEA! chant at the very least, something I have never witnessed in the Bridge before.

It was largely ticket holders and members allowed to get tickets yesterday, with a small amount of general sale, so it was Chelsea fans in the stadium who were there for one reason and one reason only, to back and support their team. This is what made it, and this is what made us act as the 12th man and helped get Chelsea over the line to win a massively crucial game.

I firmly believe that if the fans were not there last night, and were not as vocal in the stands, then Chelsea might have folded when Leicester pulled a goal back. You could just see that the loud support from the side lines was giving the Chelsea players an extra boost in morale and a helped get the result.

THIS is what football is about, and THIS is what a vocal set of fans inside a stadium can do.

Can we stick to 8,000 fans moving forward please?!

It was great, you could get a pint quick, you could walk around the site without bumping shoulders every 2 seconds, and it was a much more intimate feeling. It felt like we were all together as one.

Jokes aside, I get it, I understand the back story to it all, and in reality, I actually cannot wait to see a full Stamford Bridge again.
