Politics do not belong in football, but unfortunately in this day and age they are forever playing a massive part and getting involved.
Whilst I always prefer to keep my political opinions away from my football opinions, Public Health England and the English FA have forced me to voice my disgruntlement at what appears to be a joint decision made by the pair of them today to make Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell self-isolate until June the 28th, missing tonight’s match and potentially more.

This is because they were seen speaking with Billy Gilmour, who tested positive for Covid-19 after, in the tunnel at the end of the England and Scotland match on Friday evening for around 20 minutes.
I’m no scientist, but would Covid then be able to avoid getting near anyone else on the pitch who he grappled with consistently for 90 minutes of the match, then the manager and all the players who he was seen hugging at the end of the match, or his team mates that he would have shared a changing room and showers with, as well as a hotel, team bus, and anything else they did after the match such as chilling out and playing table tennis? Did covid miss all of that?
Just Mount and Chilwell because they spoke to him for a massive 20 minutes in the tunnel?
Listen, I’m not playing down covid, of course not, it’s a serious thing and has caused a global pandemic. However, what I am questioning is common sense and consistency, and the ridiculous call by the above parties that have robbed Mount and Chilwell of potentially any more game time this Euros.
They’ve been unfairly robbed by a decision that makes no sense at all. The only way this makes sense is that all of the Scotland team and possibly even England if you want to get really anal about it, all self-isolate. But of course, that cannot happen because then the tournament comes into doubts of continuing at all.
Listen, if they are still that concerned about covid outbreaks in camps, then why on earth did they carry on with this tournament that sees teams traveling from different countries, not having to quarantine on arrival like us joe public would have to, and taking risks all the time?
I’ve even seen a story suggesting that the UK Government will waiver VIPs from quarantine arriving in the country to come and watch the Euros final at Wembley. How is that fair? How does that make any sense?
And what about when Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove was in contact with someone with Covid-19, after being alerted by track and trace? He was allowed to take part in a ‘pilot scheme’ of being tested every day. But that’s not an option for two England players no? OK THEN!
Surely, after all this time, they could have devised a safe and secure testing regime to have allowed the two players to keep on playing? Just imagine how gutted they will be feeling right now, all from a ludicrous decision that defies logic, defies common sense, and is totally and utterly disgracefully unfair.
If you isolate Mount and Chilwell, you isolate the entire Scotland team and staff, it is THAT simple. Now get out of here with your nonsensical garbage.
This is the problem with the so called covid-19. Every thing about it defies logic and common sense.
What’s politics got to do with it ?
They both stroked Billy Gilmour’s head in the dressing room so they had to be put under isolation, after Billy got the virus.
I wholeheartedly agree with every word. Both my 5 year old granddaughters are self-isolating, different schools, because a class mate, 1 in 30, has tested positive. Don’t footballers share rooms when on tour? They also tend to hug a lot as well.
