There is perhaps one surprise name this pre-season who is really standing out and giving Thomas Tuchel something serious to think about.
A lot of situations are currently up in the air in the squad right now, which is why it is difficult to judge what Tuchel will decide to do with many players.

A lot of it depends whether Chelsea sign their alleged targets at centre back, and in the midfield. But with a big-money deal for Romelu Lukaku allegedly close, you do wonder just how many more signings the club will be able to make this window.
But there is one player who should be considered for a role if we cannot sign a new target for the back, or in midfield, and that is Trevoh Chalobah, who has arguably had the best pre-season of any Chelsea player, let alone fringe players.
Tuchel is clearly taking a long good look at him, with him playing most of the minutes of pre-season so far, and it will be interesting to see what the German boss decides to do.
The fact he can play as a centre back, as well as a defensive midfielder, stands him in very good stead when Tuchel is making his decisions. There is Billy Gilmour who needs replacing still in the middle of the park and nothing seemingly advanced for any new midfielders, with also doubts of Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s future, and there is a chance that Chelsea lose one or two centre backs this summer, with the heaviest links being with Kurt Zouma.
So there could be a number of spots ready for Chalobah to step into, and we know he has the quality to do so. He is a very comfortable and calm footballer with a good physical presence and a great attitude – These are all thing that Tuchel LOVES.
So Chalobah could well be the surprise inclusion in Tuchel’s squad this season and the surprise package for Chelsea.
