Chelsea academy striker Shim Mheuka had a brilliant breakout season for the Development Squad, and won the PL2 player of the year. He’s spoken to the club’s official website about a great season just gone.

“I’d say it’s been a solid season for me,” Mheuka said modestly.

“One of my main aims going into the campaign was to be consistent and perform week in, week out.”

He certainly managed that – he scored 18 goals in 19 appearances, helping his team to the title. He gave lots of credit to those around him for his successes this year:

“I genuinely think a lot of the credit for this award goes to the team, the staff and everyone around the club. The togetherness here is incredible.”

So what’s next for Shim? The Athletic’s recent “deal sheet” confirmed what we all already knew – the club consider him ready for a senior loan. Picking the right club for him now is a massive deal for his development, and we hope they come up with something good.

We’ve seen too many talents wasted in recent years on bad loans.

In other news…

Jarrod Bowen would be a very tempting target for Chelsea, but West Ham are insisting they’re not interested in selling him.

Nicolas Jackson’s actions at the Club World Cup did not do much to endear him to his manager or teammates, it seems.
