Gianfranco Zola is a Chelsea fan through and through, and speaking about the year just gone and the appointment of Xabi Alonso, he showed he’s thinking the same way as the players.
“We all know it hasn’t been a good season but we all know we will come back strong. I’m looking forward to the next season. It’s going to be challenging but I think we will do well under Xabi.”

We’re looking forward to it too. In fact, it’s been a while since Chelsea appointed a manager held in such high regard as Alonso.
Thomas Tuchel certainly had a good reputation, as had Antonio Conte. But just 12 months ago Alonso was the top coaching prospect in Europe in most people’s eyes, and neither Conte nor Tuchel was quite at that level.
You might have to go all the way back to Jose Mourinho to find a moment where Chelsea had locked in a coach with such a rising star. We’re as excited as Zola to see where it goes.

Chelsea had been linked with Alvaro Carreras as a potential target at left back – but according to a Fabrizio Romano report this morning that’s not going to happen.
Romano is also claiming that Ipswich Town are very close to appointing Strasbourg boss Gary O’Neil as their new manager, leaving BlueCo in the lurch.
