There is some agitation in the Chelsea fanbase at the moment around the lack of transfer action at the club so far this summer.

Chelsea need liquid market to make sales

Defence is a great example. Gill points out that centre back is a “priority position” for Chelsea this summer. But they have so many players on the books in that position already that they can’t really buy more.
We need to see the likes of Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo out of the door before we spend money on more additions. So perhaps we should be more worried about the lack of chatter linking them with an exit than the lack of talk about their replacements. Selling them without serious losses could be very challenging.
The World Cup is jamming up the liquidity in the market as teams bide their time. It may be a summer where patience is required – then everything unlocks in July when the tournament is over.
