  • Chelsea Women drawn with Fiorentina in Women’s Champions League.
  • The Blues were defeated in the semi-finals by VfL Wolsburg last season.
  • The first-leg of the tie is set to take place later in October.

Chelsea Women have been drawn with Italian side Fiorentina in the last 16 of the Women’s Champions League.

If you’re eager to see Chelsea in action on the European stage this term, and can’t stomach the Europa League, the Women’s team provides a useful alternative.

The FA Women’s Super League champions were defeated by two-time winners VfL Wolfsburg at the semi-final stage last season. They’ll be looking to go all the way this term, but will have to overcome Fiorentina first.

Fiorentina won the Serie A Women title in the 2016/17 campaign, but were unable to replicate that success last term, finishing 17 points behind winners Juventus Women.

Antonio Cicotta’s side defeated Danish champions Fortuna Hjørring in the round of 32, which was coincidentally the same side they came up against at that stage of the competition last season.

Chelsea Women are down in fifth place after four games in the WSL. A run in Europe would provide another opportunity to secure a major trophy this season if the in-form Arsenal women prove too tough to catch.
