Today we’ve been given one of the less believable rumours of the summer, with Chelsea linked to Granit Xhaka.

It’s transfer season, and Chelsea have kicked into gear recently. However, there are also a few very questionable rumours around which we find hard to believe.
Today’s one takes the cake – Italian transfer guy Luca Cerchione has made the huge claim that Chelsea are trying to sign Granit Xhaka for Xabi Alonso, at a hefty price of €30m.
Alonso wants Xhaka type – but not Xhaka

We said ourselves that Alonso would want a Xhaka-type player at Chelsea. And perhaps even the man himself. But there is no way they’d pay €30m for a midfielder who turns 34 in September.
They have said they are going to rethink their transfer strategy – but this would be an insane pivot which we still can’t believe they’d do. Surely €100m on Adam Wharton with the hopes he can play at Xhaka’s level (and will have more legs than the former Arsenal man) is a better investment than that sort of money on a player who could go off a cliff physically at any moment?
Perhaps we’ll be proven wrong – and Cerchione does appear to have a good record – but right now we just can’t see it.
In other news…
Xabi Alonso wants to sign a midfielder, and according to Simon Phillips, there’s one name he’s given the green light to above all others.
Reece James has picked up an injury at the World Cup, and the blame has to fall on Thomas Tuchel for that.
