Morata began his career with Los Blancos, making 52 first-team appearances between 2011 and 2014, scoring 11 goals.
However, he failed to establish himself as a regular in Real Madrid’s sides, and subsequently joined Serie A heavyweights Juventus on a permanent deal in the summer of 2014.
Morata won the league and cup double in both seasons he spent in Turin, as well as reaching the Champions League final, where he scored in a 3-1 loss to Barcelona.
His good performances in Juventus convinced Real Madrid to re-sign him, and Morata immediately repaid their faith. The 24-year-old scored 20 goals in all competitions last term, despite being behind Karim Benzema in the pecking order.
Now just three months shy of his 25th birthday, Morata needs to be playing regularly in order to continue his development. He will almost certainly get the chance to do so at Stamford Bridge.
Morata spoke to the Chelsea website about his delight at becoming a Chelsea player:
“I am so happy to be here. It’s an incredible emotion to be part of this big club. I am looking to work hard, score as many goals as I can and to win as many trophies as possible.”
