Chelsea haven’t been good enough to challenge for the title this season, that we can’t deny. However, we can’t help but wonder how the table would look if luck was on our side.
We were defeated by Leicester City last weekend, but only due to Marcos Alonso’s inability to finish while 1-on-1 late-on. Alonso struck the inside of the post and his effort rolled clear of the goal.
It wasn’t the first time this season that the woodwork has saved our opponents. Today at Selhurst Park, Chelsea have been denied twice by the upright. That takes our tally for the season up to 15.
Chelsea have hit the woodwork 15 times in the Premier League this season, at least three times more than any other team.

Think of the number of points we could have added onto our current tally had those efforts nestled in the back of the net rather than rebounding to safety.
There is an element of poor finishing which we can’t deny, but when you consider the fortune Liverpool have had this term, that really can be a deciding factor when it comes to determining the eventual champions.
