Chelsea striker Diego Costa could be set to be fined as much as £300K after failing to report for pre-season training, according to The Sun.

The Sun claim that Costa was supposed to begin pre-season training two weeks ago, but has failed to do so. He has instead opted to remain in his native Brazil and party.

The tabloid report that Antonio Conte made it clear to Costa that he would be training away from the first-team squad as he is no longer part of his plans. He was supposed to be working on his fitness ahead of leaving the club, however.

The Sun believe that the situation surrounding Costa’s future has been complicated by the fact that Atletico Madrid, his most likely destination, have been banned from making new signings until the January transfer window.

Let’s hope a speedy resolution can be found, because the Costa saga is dragging on far longer than previously anticipated.
