Chelsea are reportedly prepared to promote Eden Hazard to club captain in hope of convincing him to stay.
Hazard has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid. He has flirted with the idea of making the move, with Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure increasing speculation.
The Belgian is Chelsea’s most important player, and arguably the most talented we’ve ever had. Losing him would be nothing short of a disaster.
Chelsea will no doubt be desperate to keep hold of him. We’d give a limb to see him remain here for a few more seasons.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea won’t be sacrificing arms or legs, but could hand the 27-year-old the captain’s armband to convince him to stay put.
Hazard is very much in contention for the captaincy, while Cesar Azpilicueta and Cesc Fabregas are also being considered for the role.
Either way, it doesn’t look like Gary Cahill’s reign as Chelsea captain will be going on for much longer.
