Chelsea fans singled out one player in particular for criticism for his performance during our 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
We took all three points from the game thanks to a second-half goal from N’Golo Kante. The scoreline didn’t reflect how dominant we were throughout the 90 minutes, but it very rarely does when our misfiring group of attackers are involved.
Olivier Giroud may have finished the game without a goal, but it wasn’t for the want of trying. The Frenchman found the back of the net twice, but both times his efforts were ruled out for offside.
The usual scapegoats, Marcos Alonso and Willian, also evaded the scope of the unforgiving Chelsea faithful, despite the fact that Alonso came under some criticism early on for the manner in which he picked up a yellow card.
The player that Chelsea fans picked on during and following the game was England international Ross Barkley. He was given an opportunity to impress today and show Maurizio Sarri why he deserves to start, but failed to do perform.
His lacklustre performance didn’t go unnoticed by Chelsea fans on Twitter. Many have criticised Barkley, and some have even gone as far as claiming that he’s simply not good enough. Have a look at this.
Barkley has had the ball stripped off him 3 times in the last 5 minutes. Morata levels of ball retention today.

Barkley hasn’t exactly made the most of his rare start.

Do people actually think Barkley is better than Kovacic?

Barkley is a good player but he doesn’t do much, I think he lacks confidence still. Needs to drive forward more and be more influential in the final third

Barkley is not Chelsea level man.

He’s not a bad player, but is there ANY area in which Barkley is better than Loftus-Cheek? Doesn’t seem like it… 🔵

As for Ross Barkley’s performance today, best we don’t speak about it. 🤢🤢

Barkley clearly struggling with confidence. He hardly made any forward passes. Everything coming from him was left, right & back, nothing forward. #CRYCHE
