It’s been confirmed today that Chelsea have sold Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid for €60m, concluding a four year spell for the Spaniard at Chelsea.
While Real Madrid are a somewhat surprising destination, a deal to sell Cucurella has been brewing. The full back’s comments back in March made that clear. Now he’s gone and Chelsea have €60m burning a hole in their pocket, the question is what they do next.
Chelsea face big decision over talented Hato
A big part of this deal was likely Jorrel Hato’s performances in the second half of the season. After arriving from Ajax last summer, the full back had something of a shaky start. But he improved down the stretch, and was one of very few who emerged from the Graham Potter era with any credit.
We will still need another option in that position – the question is whether we aim for a ready made starter who slots in ahead of Hato, or whether the Dutchman is now considered number one and we try to find another young talent to back him up.
Either way, transfer season has very much been kicked into gear at Stamford Bridge.
